Esporta Sucks

Reasons not to enter into a contract with Esporta Health Clubs:

Despite numerous consumer complaints, a BBC Watchdog investigation, pleas by MP’s on behalf of their constituents and an Office of Fair Trade ruling, Esporta continues to demoralise it’s own staff and abuse it’s customers. Esporta is a money making machine for it’s owners and has no motivation or intention of improving the consumer experience for its customers.

The only way this situation will change is if we as consumers stop signing up for membership at Esporta Gyms.

The following bullet points are the main causes of the problems at Esporta:

  • There is no way to end your membership within the first 12 months. Whether you use the gym or not, you will have to pay for a full years membership.
  • You must give notice in writing 3 months in advance of the day you wish to discontinue your membership even if you want to end your membership after your 12th month.
  • Esporta will not respond to any written communication you send to them, ever.
  • If you miss any payment they will send their debt collection agency (Arc Europe) after you. The debt collection agency will not entertain any reasons for non-payment, even legitimate ones. Even if you have followed the cancellation procedure. Their goal is to extract money from you and they are unscrupulous. They do not abide by the rules and laws set out for debt collection and will ignore any correspondence that does not contain a payment.
  • Their contract has been deemed by the Office of Fair Trading to contain unfair terms for consumers. The OFT judgement is available at: http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/resource_base/consumer-regulations/traders/790/1/

It is the view of the author that the unscrupulous tactics adopted by both Esporta and Arc Europe do not represent legitimate business procedure. Their tactics resemble those of crooks and thieves and I do not wish to be associated with any business that operates in this manner regardless of the quality of their gyms, fitness staff or equipment.
